ICA North America oversees the importation of ICA products into North America. We are continually in touch with the Italian laboratories to ensure that all the very latest products are available for our distributors and direct importers. From our offices in Ontario, we co-ordinate sales, shipments, technical assistance, and marketing for our customers across North America.
European trends are shifting strongly in favour of water-borne finishes, both for interior and exterior use. ICA is proud to demonstrate the viability of using these products for almost any project and we are convinced that water-based products represent the sustainable future of the coatings industry.
ICA Group was launched as a private, family-owned company. The members of the Paniccia family remain a very active part of the business to this day, thereby ensuring continuity in the management, maintenance, and pursuit of the corporate mission, with a specific, constant focus on quality and innovation.
Industria Chimica Adriatica, specializing in the manufacture of wood coatings, is founded in 1971 by Claudio Paniccia.
Over the course of the following decade, the company carried out its first major expansion operations. In the 1970s, ICA created its first Research & Development laboratory, employing highly specialized technicians to ensure that the company’s products followed the technological and innovative requirements of its clients.
In the 1980s, ICA started working on coating products with low environmental impact. In 1983, the company launched its first water-based coatings as a sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative to solvent-based coatings for furniture, frames, and shutters.
In 1995, the range of bicomponent water-based coatings formulated by ICA received the European Community’s LIFE mark, in recognition of the group’s “sustainable long-term development” targeted towards the reduction of atmospheric emissions.
ICA was the first Italian company in the wood coatings sector to attain Quality System Certification for its global corporate processes, in compliance with the requirements of the UNI EN ISO 9001 standard.
Since 1999, Dun & Bradstreet (a global leader in business information) gave ICA its Rating 1 “High Level of Reliability”.
In 2002, the production of the entire range of water-based coatings was transferred to a new 5,000m2 facility. ICA Group inaugurated its new Research & Development laboratories, covering a total area of 3,700m2, including chemistry and physics labs, application labs, and training rooms.
In 2004, ICA acquired BASF Coatings, giving rise to a new company by the name of Salchi Wood Coatings.
In 2005, a new warehouse, dedicated to the storage of finished products, is opened. The 10,300m2 facility is located on a 25,600m2 site. ICA also opened its first direct sales subsidiary in Heek to sell its products directly in Germany.
ICA attained Environmental Management Certification in compliance with the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 international standard.
ICA Group established ICA Iberia to increase its presence in Spain and Portugal, allowing it to provide more direct sales and technical services to the Spanish and Portuguese markets.
ICA attains OHSAS 18001 Certification for the Civitanova headquarters and the Italian branches.

2012 saw the launch of the new division, Italian Coatings, which is the result of the merger by acquisition of Salchi Wood Coatings SpA with ICA Group. The group synergizes the two companies by boosting competitiveness and strengthening the presence of its products on international markets through the new iCO brand.
ICA Group sets up ICA China in order to increase its presence in the Chinese market, where it has already been operating for several years. This more direct presence makes it possible to bolster the technical/sales service.
The new German company ICA Deutschland is formed out of the sales subsidiary in Heek.
ICA Group’s training school, which was established with the objective of making the most of the group’s resources through the delivery of training programs and through the identification of talented young people who aspire to become international managers.
ICA’s research in this field was presented to the European Commission and was the only one to receive an award (“LIFE”) in the coatings sector. The products developed by ICA were shown to work effectively towards a reduction in atmospheric emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).
LIFE (l’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement) program, is an initiative launched to give financial incentives to organizations engaged in ‘solid and sustainable development’. The central objectives of the LIFE program are the control and reduction of pollution in its various forms through ‘clean’ technologies.
ICA is also the first European wood coatings manufacturer to achieve ISO14001 certification – described as: An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a structured approach to addressing the environmental bottom line. ISO 14001 is the world’s most recognized EMS framework – accepted from Argentina to Zimbabwe – that helps organizations both to manage better the impact of their activities on the environment and to demonstrate sound environmental management.
